“I takes a lot of courage to release the familiar and seemingly secure, to embrace the new. But there is no real security in what is no longer meaningful. There is more security in the adventurous and exciting, for in movement there is life, and in change there is power.”
Welcome to “Susan’s Musings by the Sea!” We’ll explore the Monterey Peninsula together and chat about what the Monterey Peninsula Lifestyle really is! Since I’m a realtor here in Carmel with Alain Pinel Realtors, no doubt I’ll be talking real estate, but also about what’s going on, places to see, and my adventures on the Peninsula. Whether its todays whale sightings off the coast, the Bach Festival in town, or the upcoming Car Week culminating with the Concours de Elegance – we never get bored!
Carmel-by-the-Sea is a charming seaside town with gorgeous white sand beaches, storybook homes, and a quaint downtown filled with fine restaurants, shops, and art galleries. The oldest structure is the Carmel Mission founded by Franciscan Junipero Serra in the 1770’s, but as a village it was founded in 1902 and incorporated in 1916 and is only one mile by one mile in size. The town was laid out in small parcels of 40 X 100 ft and small cottages dotted the landscape. In the early 1900’s a colony of bohemians and artists were attracted to the amazing beauty of the area and still today, Carmel remains a magnate for artists and writers. It has been named the third most romantic city in the world by Travel and Leisure (behind only Paris and Venice) and is indeed a popular spot to become engaged or married. Residents and visitors alike think Carmel is one of our unique treasures.
Pebble Beach is an unincorporated residential community in the Del Monte Forest home to the world-renown golf course, Pebble Beach Golf Links, as well as Spyglass Hill, The Links at Spanish Bay and Poppy Hills. It is known for its stunning estate properties, however, more modest homes also exist within the gates of this prestigious community. Pebble Beach Lodge and the Inn at Spanish Bay are popular luxury hotels that attract visitors who come to play golf, take in the awesome natural beauty of the Pacific Coast, and enjoy the luxurious spa. All visitors, however, can experience the beauty of the rugged cypress-lined coastline by following the Seventeen Mile Drive that winds through Pebble Beach past the Lone Cypress outlook, the pri-vate Monterey Peninsula Country Club and Cypress Golf courses, the magnificent estates, and the beautiful pine forests.
